While we still have some summer left, as the season comes to a close, it invites us to look at ourselves and ask what changes we would like to make. Many people want to make changes-be it nutritionally, financially, physically, spiritually, or in relationships. Wanting to make changes is great but we have to know HOW to make them. Follow these tips and you will be on your way!
- See it-Visualize yourself living the life with that exact and specific change.
- Write it down-Be clear about what you are seeking. For example, I want to change the fact that I often I compare myself to others.
- Create a reward. In other words, when you implement the change you are seeking, have a reward set up for yourself. (This could be taking yourself to a movie or going for a massage.
- Tell a friend about your plan to make this change. Ask your friend to check in with you weekly to see how you are progressing. Being held accountable can be a huge help!
- Write in a journal as if you have already achieved this goal. For instance, “I am thrilled that I am saving an extra $500 a month.”
- Ask yourself what will be different in your life when you make this change. Why do you want this change?
- Map out specific steps to attain this goal. Break it down into small manageable steps so it is not overwhelming. Once we get overwhelmed, it is much harder to progress!
- Celebrate each step you take; giving yourself positive feedback along the way.
- Believe you are capable of making this change. If you have a tough time believing you can do it, ask those closest to you what they think.
- Like Nike says, JUST DO IT!
